Deposit protection, step by step

Where your money sits, when it moves, and what happens in a dispute. A PawTrace guide for Canadian dog owners.

The short answer

With PawTrace deposit protection, your deposit is held by a licensed payment processor, not the breeder. It's released when you confirm pickup and the record checks out. If the breeder cancels or the puppy's record doesn't match, you get it back.

How it works

  • The breeder issues a passport and a deposit request
  • You pay by card through the processor
  • The funds are held until pickup
  • You confirm the puppy matches the passport, and the funds are released

When you get it back

  • The breeder cancels
  • The puppy's microchip or record doesn't match
  • Terms agreed in the contract aren't met

Frequently asked questions

Is deposit protection insurance?

No. It's a held payment, released only when the conditions are met.
