Clauses to look for
- Full names, addresses and the puppy's identification (microchip number)
- Price, deposit amount and refund terms
- Health guarantee: what's covered, for how long, and the remedy
- Take-back or rehoming clause
- Spay/neuter or breeding terms, if any
- Records provided: vaccines, deworming, parent health tests, registration
Warning signs
- No written contract
- A 'non-refundable' deposit with no conditions
- A guarantee that voids itself if you use a particular food or vet
